Planning Guide from an LGBT Wedding Photographer
Throwing out the rulebook: Authentic wedding photography for the London queer community
There is something about the morning of a wedding in London that just feels different. Whether it is the quiet hum of a Hackney street waking up or the sun hitting the brickwork of a South London warehouse, that energy is why I do what I do. Planning a wedding can feel like trying to fit your life into a box that was never built for you, and the industry is still so wrapped up in rigid, traditional ideas of what a “big day” should look like. Honestly, I think it is time we just let that go.
Capturing those unscripted, honest moments that happen when you are just being yourself.
As a queer photographer, I’ve been on both sides of the lens. I know that finding an LGBTQ+ friendly wedding photographer London isn’t just about finding someone who is “okay” with your relationship. It is about finding someone who actually sees you, and about active allyship that makes sure the language we use reflects your reality. At Emmet.t.c, we don’t just show up to take photos; we are there to protect your peace. If you need a team that is specifically trans-inclusive to make sure every guest feels seen and respected, we have that covered. Comfort is the secret ingredient to great photos, and you can’t be comfortable if you’re busy explaining your identity to a stranger. Most of the documentary and community work that shapes how I approach this actually lives on queer.photo, alongside coverage of Pride and other community events across London.
I love it when my couples decide to set the traditional rulebook on fire. Why follow a script that doesn’t represent you? Whether you are looking for a gay wedding photographer London to document a massive party or you’re after a same-sex wedding videographer UK for something cinematic and low-key, the goal is always the same: genuine connection. No stiff, gendered posing, no weird assumptions about who is supposed to stand where or who is “the bride” or “the groom.” If those titles don’t fit, we bin them. Walk down the aisle together, have a cocktail before the ceremony, or invent a tradition that only makes sense to your chosen family. This is really an extension of the same approach we take with personal branding photography for clients, portraits that reflect who someone actually is rather than a template.
Sometimes the most beautiful days aren’t “weddings” in the classic sense at all. If you are searching for a civil partnership photographer London, you get the exact same level of hype and artistry from me. Every milestone is a big deal. I’ve seen some of the most moving moments happen in quiet registry offices or mid-afternoon pub receptions. My style is very much documentary-led, close to how I approach an environmental portrait session, so whether we are doing lesbian wedding videography with a romantic, sweeping feel or using direct flash for a gritty, East End party vibe, it is always going to feel like you.

Building your dream team is a huge part of the process, and I always tell people to look for queer inclusive wedding vendors who are vetted. Resources like the Rebel Love Directory or The Gay Wedding Guide are amazing for finding florists and planners who actually care about allyship. Your wedding should be about your love and your rules, full stop. If you want to see how a full shoot gets delivered once the day itself is over, that is exactly what LemonLens is for, real client galleries rather than a generic sales page. And if you want a look at my wider portfolio beyond weddings, emmetc.co.uk has the rest of it. If you want someone to capture the chaos, the tears, and the dancing, let’s grab a coffee or a cocktail and chat, and if you are still comparing photographers, our guide to choosing a London portrait photographer covers a lot of the same ground from a different angle. I can’t wait to hear what you’re planning.
Common Questions
How do you handle pronoun usage and titles?
We take your lead entirely. Before the day, we have a chat about how you’d like to be addressed and how you’d like your guests to be referred to. We make sure our whole team is on the same page so there are no awkward moments.
Do you travel outside of London?
Absolutely. While I’m often working as a photographer in the city, I’m happy to head anywhere in the UK to document your day, especially for elopements and unique destination celebrations. Most weeks I’m still based out of our Fulham studio, so anything in South West London is especially easy to fit in.
Do you shoot headshots and portraits too, or only weddings?
Weddings are a big part of what I do, but the same eye applies to headshots and personal branding work throughout the year. If you know someone who needs a professional portrait rather than a wedding gallery, it is worth pointing them that way too.
Need photos of your own?
Headshots, team portraits and personal branding, shot in Fulham or on location across London.
